An Appeal for people in the E-class.
- As I will be a couple of days late in the beginning of year 10, I'll need someone to give me the timetable through email/blog. I'm willing to bribe in dried apricots/chocolate.
- Emm, on average, I'd like to know the marks you got in the report, in general. Like the ratio of A/B/C. (A being end of year 10, B being middle of year 10, C being end of year 9) My one is :A=7/B=9/C=3 and I was wondering just how average that is?
Also, for those of you wanting an unconventional Christmas.

I'd say any of us would be happy to copy out the timetable for you Alex, at least one of us should remember....
And as for reports, yours is REALLY good, a bit above average from what I've seen of a few peoples reports. My split personally was 8/8/2/1, and from what I've seen that was pretty good, I'd say the average split for people in our class would be something like 3/13/4 or something like that. There would have been a fairly wide range of results, but since many of the marks were the same or very similiar no matter what you did, not as much variation unless you really excelled at something.
PS: Take all comments with a pinch of salt, since I have only seen four peoples reports (mine, Matts', Erics' and Sarahs').
Hmm, as long as mine is close to average I'm happy. I was kind of scared that all people got end of year 10 (A's) and then I'll be the one trailing behind.
And you did well! As for the timetable, thanks! (Even thought you haven't agreed to anything yet)
I wouldn't think you would have to take everyone's with a pinch of salt I would think everyone to be rather open about what they got. Just because you haven't personally seen the reports doesn't mean people are lying Jason. I have seen many many many many I think I remember 13 reports and the average was 2/10/8. Also what I noticed from all the reports is that many teachers have been lackadaisical in reporting. Alex, you can't decide whether you are good enough for the class based on your report. I can tell you now 100% guarantee that you will do well in the class and you will not feel out of your depth anymore than anyone else. The thing you have to take into account is reporting throughout the year. The end of the year report is a basic idea of the year's performance. I think something on my report I noticed was that I got consistent B's on English. Every essay I did that year was over 8.5/10, I got 9.5/10 for my debate, 9.75/10 for my public speaking, and got 8 on my essay at the end of the year. Because I got 8 at the end of the year on an single essay which warrants as much marking as all the essays throughout the year my average was bumped down to a middle of year 10 when our teacher had previously told Matt and I that or writing was of a higher standard than anyone else in the class and beyond year 10. What I am trying to say here is that you can't base how you will fit in based on how many A's you got. Also teacher marking from different teachers will be a challenge to compare over classes as our Japanese teacher gave everyone a C for LOTE and Personal learning if she deemed it good enough and from all the reports I saw the German teacher gave an A if she thought it was at standard. Similarly I didn't fall below 90% on ANY geography task yet got the same score as others who fell below 50% on many occasions. The marking system is flawed in many ways and ALEX YOU WILL DO FINE! Seriously back on the topic of taking comments with a pinch of salt is rather stupid. If people are willing to put their results on the internet in front of many a person they know I would think it is rather rude for another person to say don't believe everything they say. Sometimes you need a faith in people's personality and their word and if you don't you will end up like Joel in Survivor. Up sh*t creek without a paddle.
Sorry for the rant. Alex, welcome to the E-Class
You will not be trailing behind. No one in our class is actually brilliant at everything.
Wow. Joe, may I applaud. As for the flaws, I totally agree, however I got into the class due to the report so in the end it's the only thing that - rather stupidly - matters. Specially that if we fail in a report we fail year ten. Maybe you should go into politics and change all that. Hmmm?
As for doing well in the E-class, just be aware I may get clingy for the first few days/weeks. As you're sane (and my height!).
Don't apologize for the rant. Love the rant. (very tempted to say that rants are ... actually my parent read this blog sometime, so lets not go there). Anyway rants show the ugly side of people. Uncensored, passionate, wild. You get the point. Don't apologize for a brilliant rant.
You are extremely supportive Joe, to my insecurities. A girl could get used to this.
As for not being brilliant, I am getting you're point but I think you under estimate your self.
(Right, off to phone England now.)
Ok. Well thank you. I feel special. I hate ranting but I love reading them. However I do know other people don't like them and so I sort of refrain now but I needed to point out the reporting flaws. Intellect and intelligence is such a force that I believe it will never properly be examined in full detail. Some of the best people have come from academic failures; Lucille Ball, Ulysses S. Grant and Thomas Edison. On Thomas Edison the teacher said he was too stupid to learn anything and should go into a field that would appreciate his pleasant personality. So in conclusion I don't think reporting has that much to say about a person On the height thing I AM GROWING! ROAR! POWER-UP! I sounded scarily like a power ranger there! Also I was on the phone to England not 30 minutes ago. WEIRD!
I know what you mean about reading rants. Well, when I say rants I mean intellectual rants, rants that are just swearing I do find rather caveman-ish and crude.
I like flaws, flaws are like bumps on the road, they make the journey more interesting.
Don't grow!!! Don't leave me behind, you're already taller than me! On the other side, the ‘petite’ angle may not work on you as it does on me.
The person who I was phoning is away, so I'll phone on Monday. As for coincidence: I was reading a letter from someone back in my English school and she said that they watched The Day After Tomorrow also on their last day of school in geography. I always phone at this time.
Saturday:
7pm: Phone Becca
8pm: Phone Jenny
On our last day in Geography year 8 we watched the day after tomorrow too!!!
It seems to be the ultimate cool geography film. Personally I do actually like it (and own it).
hey alex
joe's right, not that i bothered to read all of it! :) but seriously from the marks on your report, that is really good and i'm sure you'll be fine.
- Lauren
PS: alex you'll still be taller than me, but then again everyone is! lol.
Lauren, thanks. The PS made me perk up.
Wow. Lots of chatter. I agree with most of what has been said, though Joe's remark on our german teachers report I think is slightly off, since I'd say Burnie was about the average (or slightly above) in our class and he got a B. So she may have been slightly lenient, but I'd say an A is well deserved when you average above 95% on tests. Admittedly they were easy tests..but we can't help that...:)
I'd say that whilst yes, the marking system on reports is flawed, I wouldn't say it is completely worthless, as it does give at least a slight indication of where you are. Anyway, GTG now.
You have only seen yours, Matt's, Sarah's and Eric's. I have seen most of the people in our class save a few. On average the german teacher was a lot more lenient with marking for interpersonal learning and LOTE. I read in no less than 3 comments she said she thought the student in question was at the expected level and therefore got an A. With LOTE she also gave A's out to many many students. Our japanese teacher didn't give one out even though Matt achieved over 90% on EVERY test and I didn't fall below 97% on more than 15 tests this semester. However because I am achieving a high grade at a VELS year 9 level I get a C because that is where I am expected. NO ONE in our japanese class got over a C because we were all at the expected level no matter how well we did. Marking does give a good indication about where students are but you can't take too much away if all the marks are by different teachers with different standards and marking techniques.
Urrggghhh. I HAD a normal reply to your comment Joe, but then I re-read you comment and saw this ( missed it first time round): "If people are willing to put their results on the internet in front of many a person they know I would think it is rather rude for another person to say don't believe everything they say."
You then said this:
"You have only seen yours, Matt's, Sarah's and Eric's. I have seen most of the people in our class save a few."
So pretty much, the conclusion I gather from this is that you don't want me to give my opinion at all to Alex's query. Since you think it rude to put a standard disclamier that I may not be 100% right with absolutely everything I say (if anyone thinks they are always right then they obviously have an over-inflated opinion of themselves), and yet you then openly question my opinions because of the very reason I put the disclaimer there in the first place! Is this how you meant it? If so, then get off my back ok? I was only giving some advice, and as I haven't known alex for that long, I didn't want her to assume that everything I say is right. So, I told her that my opinions *could* be false. COULD be. I don't see the harm in that. If you do, please illuminate me as to why you think this (via email preferably).
Well you put it out here so I will too. If you had said take MY comments with a pinch of salt THAT MIGHT HAVE HELPED A LITTLE DON'T YOU THINK? I get this feeling that whenever I say something about one of your comments it always seems like I miss a major part of your comment which you didn't write but was obviously inferred and I really should have picked up due to it being sent down lengths of fibre-optic cable. I am not saying you shouldn't give your opinion to Alex (lovely girl ;) ) but why is it that ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS when I reply to one of your comments you put me in the wrong because of you not making your intentions clear. Normally when you want to say take my comments with a pinch of salt you say; take my comments with a pinch of salt. Seriously, "Take all comments with a pinch of salt since I have only seen 4 reports" makes it seem like you're trying to discredit anyone else's opinions because your watchful eye hasn't scanned their report thoroughly. If you want your comments taken lightly SAY IT!
Finally my third speaker would like to say, don't fire back a response and then tell me to do the noble thing and reply to you privately over email. You can't fire a salvo then take the moral high ground and implore me to do the gentlemanly thing and make you have the last word, which ALWAYS happens.
Sorry Alex, for using your blog as a jousting arena. You however can take the spot of the fair maiden and insert comments such as "Good sir knight, pray tell me your woes!" or "Come Hither Sir Josephus and present your helmet to me as a show of courage in front of this sword of Arthur that I hold aloft...." On a lighter note (a less passion endowed comment) I watched the West Wing, which was extremely funny : excuse me Mr President I am going to start the child-singing and lute-playing. HAHAHAHA
I LOVE THE WEST WING!
Ok Joe, fine. I'm sorry. I missed putting thw word 'my' into one sentence of my comment, and so you then took it completely the wrong way, assuming the worst possible meaning. That's ok. I'm sorry if there was any confusion. But I do ask one thing, if you aren't sure what I mean when I say something, is there any harm in asking me? And that's all I'm going to say on the matter. You can have the last word if you so wish Joe, you can reply to this comment. I won't make any more posts on the subject. Ok?
Yes I would like to have the last word. I was thinking this morning my door on it's side looks like the Danish flag without colour. You know the Danish Flag is the oldest flag still in existence in the world with sources dating back to the 14th century. Many other Nordic nations took up the off centre stripe however changed the flags colours; Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland. The origin of the flag remains shrouded in mystery however legend puts it that the Dannebrog fell from the sky during Lyndanisse, rallying the troops and bringing Denmark victory. Finally, Please tell me this is sad that I know all of this!!!
It is fascinating Joe. As for this thing I'm not sure whenever to be flattered or annoyed.
However the last word was said, and that is that. Merry Christmas.
And no, I'm not angry.
